Paul Merson: Paul Lambert out of luck as goals and funds dry up at Aston Villa

Paul Merson insists Paul Lambert was not given sufficient money to spend during his time at Aston Villa.

Villa’s 2-0 defeat to Hull City extended the club's run of games without a Premier League victory to 10 games, and they slipped into the relegation zone for the first time this season.
Lambert paid with his job on Wednesday night.
First-team coach Scott Marshall and goalkeeping coach Andy Marshall have been put in temporary charge of the team.
Former Villa midfielder Merson says that if his old side stay in the top flight this season, the new boss has to make a lot of changes to the squad this summer and should be given the full backing of the board.
“If you look at Aston Villa – they don’t really know where they’re going, they never look like they’re going to score a goal… Aston Villa don’t look like scoring in a month of Sundays,” Merson said on Gillette Soccer Special.
“You’ve got to spend money and if you spend money you’ve got a chance.
“If they get £10m they buy four or five players at a million-and-a-half each, £2m each – that’s not enough. This league is very, very difficult and you just can’t get by.
“I don’t think Paul Lambert is a bad manager, I just think the players at the moment are struggling.
“I think he’s (Lambert) bang out of luck. People haven’t scored goals for him – that’s been the reason. But now they need someone in who is going to do something very, very quickly because (the remaining) 13 games go very quickly.”
Villa finished in 15th place under Lambert's two seasons in charge. This season, Villa have won just two of their last 21 games.
Charlie Nicholas told Sky Sports that the practice of buying lower league players must stop if the club is going to be competitive in the Premier League.
He also suggested that selling the club could be a solution.
“I always felt they were going to be fighting for survival: it’s a team that doesn’t spend much cash and when they get a bit of cash it’s kind of piled onto two or three positions, and they think that’s the problem solved – and of course it’s not,” Nicholas said.
“This has been going on for too long for Aston Villa.
“The current owner has to identify that something new has to start and get this club rebuilt again because if it was me, I’d be going after Glenn Hoddle.
“But if I’m Glenn Hoddle, I’d think I was crazy (to go to Villa).”

NBC anchor suspended over false Iraq claims

Williams, who hosts NBC’s top-rated "Nightly News" program, had lied that he was in a helicopter which was hit by a grenade during the 2003 war.

NBC "Nightly News" anchor, Brian WilliamsNBC "Nightly News" anchor, Brian WilliamsRenowned NBC News anchor, Brian Williamshas been suspended for six months after he made false claims about his coverage of the Iraq War.
Williams, who hosts NBC’s top-rated "Nightly News" program, had lied that he was in a helicopter which was hit by a grenade during the 2003 war.
He however admitted last week that the claims were false and that he was in fact inside a different helicopter which was not hit.
The network, in a statement issued in Wednesday, February 11, announced that Williams would go on suspension for six months without pay.
"We have decided today to suspend Brian Williams as managing editor and anchor of NBC Nightly News for six months," NBC News President,Deborah Turness said.
“The suspension will be without pay and is effective immediately. We let Brian know of our decision earlier today. Lester Holt will continue to substitute anchor the NBC Nightly News,” she added.
"By his actions, Brian has jeopardized the trust millions of Americans place in NBC News," NBC Universal Chief Executive Officer, Steve Burke also said.
"His actions are inexcusable and this suspension is severe and appropriate,” Burke added.
Williams was found out when he told the same story last month but was challenged by veterans who had been in the war.
He voluntarily took himself off the air on Saturday, February 7, five days after the network launched an inquiry into his story. The inquiry is still ongoing.

Here’s The Miguel Album News You’ve Been Waiting For

The LP, tentatively titled Wild Heart, is on its way.If you enjoyed the three super-sexual songs Miguel dropped out of nowhere back in December, get ready to go to your happy place, because that was just the tip of the iceberg.
According to Mark Pitts, RCA’s president of urban music, the “Coffee” singer’s third solo album is almost done and on the way.
“We’re 90 percent done,” Pitts told Billboard. “Its working title is Wild Heart and we’re talking second quarter. He’s more confident, and it’s going to show in the music, his look and in the videos. Miguel is ready to push the button.”
That’s great news for Miguel’s fans, who have been waiting patiently for new material from the San Pedro native since 2012’s Kaleidoscope Dream, which included the Grammy-winning hit, “Adorn.”
Now that almost three years have passed since Miguel’s critically acclaimed sophomore LP, Pitt says that the crooner has grown and is ready to really connect with his audience.
“His first album was about trials and tribulations,” Pitts said. “The second was OK, we’re here; I wasn’t bugging. And now it’s here we go. He wants people to understand who he is. He’s tired of people asking who are you, what’s that, do you like girls?” He tells me, ‘I want everyone to know I am wild, funny, edgy and love women. I need this album to connect.’”

'Fifty Shades of Grey' whips up box-office frenzy

Paris - "Fifty Shades of Grey", the long-anticipated movie version of the bestselling erotic novel, began its worldwide roll-out on Wednesday, with France one of the first to catch a glimpse.
The film, starring Jamie Dornan as a billionaire with a penchant for S&M and Dakota Johnson as a virginal student who falls for him, is being marketed as a torrid touchstone for a generation too young to remember "9 1/2 Weeks" or "Last Tango in Paris".
While the official premiere was to take place late Wednesday at the Berlin film festival, movie theatres across France, Germany, Belgium, Serbia and the Philippines were already screening the steamy picture from early in the day.
Most other countries were to show the movie from Thursday or in the case of key target market of the United States Friday. The release was timed for this weekend's Valentine's Day and was being heavily advertised as a perfect date movie.
Mixed reviews
At one of the first morning showings in Paris, however, several fans of the 2011 novel by British author E.L. James gave mixed responses.
"I was disappointed. I didn't think the actors or the script was up to the level of what was in the book," said one 70-year-old viewer who gave her first name as Christine.
A 20-year-old in the same audience, Elena Radu, said: "It's very good. The book was better, but the film is also good."
Early published reviews captured that ambivalence.
Variety, the US cinema trade magazine, said the "glossy, well cast" film was "not exactly whip-smart, but in many ways a significant improvement" on a novel trashed by critics for its low literary quality. Its supposedly risque scenes turned out to be "fairly mild provocation in this porn-saturated day and age".
The movie is slick, with many scenes shot like ads for luxury products, and the leading actors and the female director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, proving competent despite the thin plotting.
There was little on-screen evidence of the rumoured trouble on set amid tensions between the actors.
The story focuses on the fictional billionaire Christian Grey, who despite his 27 years is accomplished in a staggering number of fields.
He is the handsome tycoon at the head of a sprawling empire that boasts his name, a helicopter pilot, a virtuoso pianist. And his dark secret is that he spurns all relationships, preferring domination sex games in a room equipped with handcuffs and whips.
Dornan, a 32-year-old married British actor and former male model, picked up the leading role after the first choice, fellow Brit actor Charlie Hunnam, who stars in the US television series "Sons of Anarchy", dropped out.
Dornan's co-lead, as the shy literature student Anastasia Steele who ultimately stands up to Grey, is Johnson, the 25-year-old daughter of actress Melanie Griffith and "Miami Vice" actor Don Johnson.
"At heart, it's a simple love story," novelist James said of her story, which has sold 100 million copies internationally. "The sex scenes made headlines, but it's the love story that touched the readers."
Although the movie bares much flesh and shows some tame bondage, its 20 minutes of sexy screen time avoid any graphic shots.
It still earned an R rating in the US and in the Philippines, barring under-18s from seeing it. Malaysia has banned the movie.
DIY bondage
Some groups against domestic violence have urged a boycott of the movie, arguing it glamorises the abuse of women.
In Britain, a leaked memo to a chain of 359 hardware stores, B&Q, said its 20,000 staff should prepare for an expected onslaught of customers looking to recreate a scene where Christian Grey shops for bondage ropes, plastic cable ties and tape in a hardware store. "We stock many of the products featured in this notable scene," the memo said, predicting that "extra stock" would be required to cope with increased demand.

Charlie Sheen Calls NBC Execs 'Cowards,' Says Brian Williams Is a 'Hero' in Scathing Letter

The firestorm of controversy surrounding Brian Williams' six-month suspension from NBC News has polarized people's opinions of the Nightly News anchor, but the embattled newsman has gotten a show of support from an unlikely source: Charlie Sheen.
The notoriously outspoken Anger Management star has thrown his opinion into the mix, calling Williams a "hero" and referring to NBC execs as "cowards" and "hooligans."
Sheen, who was famously kicked off the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men in 2011 for his controversial behavior and his feud with creator Chuck Lorre, took to Twitlonger to post his open letter.

Dear Mr. Williams,
Sorry to bother you during this most surreal, unjust and mercurial moment in your awesome life.
First off, THANK YOU, for 24 years of inimitable professionalism and top shelf brilliance, as a stone cold passion driven and (PERFECTLY) fact based journalist. Secondly, Thank you "squared" for delivering not only the news on a nightly basis, (PERFECTLY) to myself and my family. But for every other person alive, (with a TV) who relied and still do, on your poetic, insightful and NOBLE sacrifices, that made our longest nights shorter, and our shortest nights safer. You good sir, are a hero in my "Entire Library"
Lastly; you are clearly the victim of a transparent and vile witch hunt! Erroneously "staged" by hooligans, non coms, cowards and oligarchs, who’s only desperate and hideous goal is to discredit the genius that they relied on for almost 3 decades!
Now and forever you are a true Patriot and a Hero of mine until the day i leave this star crossed imperfect Rock we call Earth…
Mr W: respect, love, hi 5’s and refuge! (if you need it!) I remain humbly and on dangerous standby at your service….
I am the MaSheen….
